Tim Feldmann Bharadvajasana

Wochenendworkshop mit Tim Feldmann

13.-15. September, 2019

Workshop held in English.

FRIDAY

16.30-19.00h
Welcome + Detailed Led Class, Part I

In this class, we take it’s spring in a traditional Primary Series guided class. Following this immaculate practice form, we will allow for occasional inspired off-springs into technical detail and useful hints for moving your practice along, potentially bridging spiritual gaps between your body, the practice and how it applies to our lives off the mat. We will explore anatomical mechanics for a deeper, injury free and more informed practice, as well as touching on the background of the Ashtanga method. Tim’s sincere, down-to-earth and humorous teaching style makes for a fun, focussed and reverent evening. All levels welcome.

SATURDAY

9.00-9.30h
Integrating Breath and Bandhas in Your Asana Practice

In this first session with Tim, you will locate your internal locks and drop into your breath to free your practice. Pattabhi Jois says: “the Ashtanga practice is a breathing practice – the rest is just bending!”. You will establish yourself firmly in the foundations of breath with a clear physical understanding of the use of the inner body bandhas. You will learn simple breathing to help your body find deep support and true strength, for your mind to settle into one-pointed focus and to free your body. Experience how this ancient tradition holds many life lessons.

9.30-12.00h

[Break]

14.00-16.00h
The Breath of Pleasure and Pain – The anatomy of Our Craving Mind

Are you curious about how yoga works? Are you curious about how your mind&body affects your life below the conscious moment? Then this class is for you. Yoga considers suffering the foundational paradigm of living. Yoga sastra also tells us whatever is ‘sweet in the beginning is bitter at the end’ and vice versa. How are we suppose to understand this pessimistic outlook on life? What happened to pleasure and happiness? Through yogic breathing, we have the opportunity to get a personal hands-on experience of this central paradigm and other deep teachings from the ancient yogis.

SUNDAY

9.00-10.30h
Nadi Shodana – Demystifying the Intermediate Series

In this workshop, Tim takes you through a detailed, intense and fun exploration of how the Intermediate Series of Ashtanga Yoga unlocks the spine, hips and upper body, creates strength and develops a deep sense of calmness-in-action. Taking root in healthy anatomical patterns you will identify energetic pathways that lead to pain-free deep backbends, safe hip opening and a step-by-step method to master the arm balances. Also known as the Second Series, this group of postures challenges both flexibility and strength while teaching mastery of the nervous system.

12.30-14.30h
Pain, Injury & Prevention – A Yogic Perspective

Ashtanga Yoga is one of the safest ways to get healthy and fit if approached intelligently. Yet, when we use our bodies with vigour we sometimes run into discomfort, pain, strain and injury. Every physical system has its own set of potential problem spots and Ashtanga Yoga has such too. In this lecture/workshop we will walk through some common areas of potential physical compromise in yoga asana. You will learn how to keep your knees healthy in Padmasana, maintain sound shoulder action in Chatuari & Urdhva Dhanurasana, happy hamstrings in forward bending and more. You will learn how to approach select asanas safely and accurately, how to distinguish between hurting yourself and Patanjali’s proposition of Purifying Pain. This workshop aims at giving you tools to pursue your practice with gusto and joy, understand how discomfort & pain can be a guide in your practice, while staying healthy and safe on your mat.

BIO:

Tim Feldmann is the director of Miami Life Center, the yoga shala he founded with his wife Kino MacGregor. He was set on the yoga path by his first teacher Lino Miele and is Authorized to teach directly by the founder of the Ashtanga Yoga Method, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, and his grandson, R. Sharath Jois. A practitioner of the Advanced A series Tim is dedicated to Ashtanga Yoga’s traditional method. “The body is the way to our spirit, to a truer Self. That’s what asana is for”.

A near-fatal falling accident in 1992 led Tim on the yogic path. His teaching integrates extensive studies of F.M. Alexander Technique and sitting meditation with 20 years of experience as a professional dancer and an internationally acclaimed choreographer. His in-depth knowledge of functional anatomy as well as the idiosyncratic body and mind in stillness and in motion creates the platform upon which his solid understanding of the Ashtanga method rests. Tim’s humorous, straight forward yet profound teaching style makes him a cherished teacher, travelling extensively throughout the globe.
